2.6 Procedures
Procedures calculations
The total impact of procedures is the sum of the impact of all imaging and surgical procedures entered. The individual calculations for imaging and surgical procedures are as follows:
For imaging (MRI scans, CT scans, X-Rays, Ultrasounds):
Total number of [procedure] x total number of participants x [procedure] EF
For surgical procedures under general anaesthetic:
Total number of surgical procedures x total number of participants
x duration of procedure (hours) x procedure EF per hour
Example in which there are 50 participants, and each has 2 MRI scans and 1 surgical procedure under general anaesthetic for a duration of 2 hours.
(2 x 50 x 17.5 kg CO2 eq)
+ (1 x 50 x 2 x 54.4 kg CO2 eq per hour)
= 7,190 kg CO2 eq
